I used to be a dancer, and my weight yo-yoed over the years. In my late 20s, I’d resigned myself to the fact that I was bigger. At that point, I never thought I could be the size I am today. 

I put on a lot of weight after having my daughter. Although I wanted to make a change, I wasn’t sure about Slimming World at first – my friend had to more or less drag me to a group! I’d tried many ways to lose weight before, and I was always searching for a quick fix. Of course, they didn’t work – and I was sceptical about Slimming World, too. I remember thinking that such a simple approach to eating couldn’t make that much difference – but as Food Optimising was explained to me, it became clear that it could! 

Mastering my mindset

I also struggled to believe that I could eat carbs and lose weight – however, I’m proof that you can, and that the plan does work! Everything else I tried was impossible to stick to. With Slimming World, I’m eating real, everyday food – food that my family and friends can enjoy, too, so I never have to feel left out.

One of my biggest challenges along the way was learning to believe in myself. I still struggle with emotional eating – I’ve been through a lot since I started my journey, and those things would often trigger patterns of self-sabotage. I’m working on recognising these thoughts and, with the support of my Consultant and group, overcoming them – one step at a time.  

I’ve had two Consultants, and they both really believed in me. Having someone in my corner who supported me and genuinely wanted to see me succeed was amazing. When my friend first suggested Slimming World, I said I’d go for a couple of weeks and see how I felt. It turns out I felt safe, supported and no longer alone! I enjoyed going to group every week, and that’s really been the key to seeing lasting weight loss. 

Long-term results

I’ve lost 3st 12lbs (24kg) and have been at my target weight for two years now. I’m so much more confident, and I take pride in my appearance – a stand-out moment for me was fitting into a pair of jeans from a high-street shop!

Unlike those quick-fix fad diets, Slimming World has taught me how to live a healthier, more balanced life, as well as how to lose weight. I feel happy, proud, and excited for mine and my family’s future.
