Slimming World launches new membership offer as part of NHS Better Health
Slimming World is delighted to announce the addition of a free group membership offer as part of its partnership with the NHS Better Health campaign to run alongside the highly successful discounted access to Slimming World's online service
Launched by Public Health England in July, the NHS Better Health campaign aims to help kick start a commitment to a healthier way of life, encouraging people to reset and introduce healthy habits around food, activity, to lose weight for life in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The new discount comes as Slimming World has now reopened many of its real-life community groups, with with stringent Covid-secure measures in place to ensure members are protected and safe, after they were forced to temporarily close and Slimming World launched a virtual service due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Health Survey for England 2018 revealed that nearly two thirds (63%) of adults in the UK are overweight or living with obesity, and more than half the population have found it harder to stay healthy in lockdown. Results from a snapshot of Slimming World’s Health and Wellbeing study also found that nearly two in three UK adults have found it more difficult to manage their weight during the pandemic. The study showed that eating habits and activity levels had been affected, with 39% saying they’re less active, 33% saying they’re eating more sugary foods and 17% drinking more alcohol.
Paul Sharpe, Head of Partnerships at Slimming World, said: “We’ve been delighted to partner with PHE in this campaign, the Government’s response to the evidence that shows carrying extra weight makes it harder for the body to fight COVID-19. Now our members and Consultants are coming back together in-person, we’re delighted to be able to offer people the chance to join one of our warm and friendly groups with no joining fee.
“So, there’s no better time to start afresh when it comes to developing new lifelong healthy habits around food and activity. We know that when you lose weight, you’re already doing one of the very best things you can to future-proof your health, and with 50 years of experience Slimming World is perfectly placed to help people by addressing the psychological barriers to successful long term weight loss.”

Slimming World was founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell (OBE, FRSA) in 1969. Members join local weekly groups or an online programme. Groups are run by a network of community-based Slimming World Consultants across the UK and Republic of Ireland. Consultants are trained in the role of diet and physical activity in weight management, as well as recognised behaviour-change techniques. Slimming World’s healthy eating plan, Food Optimising, is based on the science of energy density and satiety. Our phased activity programme, Body Magic, eases members into activity until it becomes an intrinsic part of their daily routine. Slimming World’s programme integrates practical, up-to-date advice with a highly-developed support system based on care and compassion, and Consultant training focuses on facilitating, encouraging and empowering members to make changes in a supportive, warm and friendly group environment. Consultant training is delivered through the Slimming World Academy. Slimming World also invests in a comprehensive research programme to develop its support for long-term weight management. The group support provided by Slimming World is recognised as effective by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the NHS. Following the suspension of weekly groups as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Slimming World launched a temporary virtual service.
