Slimming World launches 'learning extravaganza' with staff networking experience
Slimming World has launched a brand-new initiative to encourage learning, sharing and fun in the workplace at its Derbyshire head office.
The programme of events, called Slimming World Connect, was launched as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting the development of employees and fostering the company’s unique culture. It aims to promote togetherness and collaboration by giving colleagues the chance to hear about the work going on in every team across the organisation.
To kick things off, members from 20 head office teams gathered for a special speed-networking session. They found out about each other’s roles and teams, celebrated proud-ofs and successes, and shared updates about exciting projects their teams are working on to make the world a healthier, happier place.
The feedback from people who attended the event is that they learned lots about other teams’ work, understood more about the bigger picture of what everyone is working towards, made useful contacts and hugely enjoyed meeting up with and learning from colleagues they wouldn’t usually cross paths with.
Lysette Mazur, who’s worked within the PR team for around four years, says: “As well as the insights gained it was lovely to just have some dedicated time set aside to get to know colleagues I wouldn't normally interact with. It's nice to know that as a company we are willing to invest time in colleagues making connections across the business.”
We wanted to raise awareness of the vital work that each team and department across Slimming World is doing, as well as providing opportunities to meet, mix and mingle.
Each month Slimming World Connect’s activities will have a different theme. October focused on strengthening and protecting the Slimming World brand, which is a key priority for the weight-loss organisation. Meanwhile November is all about delivering an exceptional service, with workshops from the Training and Development, Partnerships and Customer Services teams among others, and December showcasing the work of the Technology and Digital Business departments.
Warren Cox, Slimming World Training Specialist, says: “In the days before lockdown, we’ve previously hosted workshops and weeks of activity to encourage sharing and learning between colleagues. These were never quite long enough to pack everything in and give everyone the chance to join in though, so we decide to create our own Slimming World Connect which already has activities planned from now until March.
“We wanted to raise awareness of the vital work that each team and department across Slimming World is doing and ambitions for the future, as well as providing opportunities to meet, mix and mingle with people from other areas of the business. So far we’re blown away as it definitely seems to be doing this and more.”

Slimming World was founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell OBE in Derbyshire in 1969 and has become the UK and Ireland’s leading weight loss organisation with more people choosing to attend a Slimming World group each week than any other weight loss programme. We support hundreds of thousands of people, both in our groups and online, to lose weight and to adopt new habits to stay slim for life.
Over the years our founding principles haven’t changed:
· Our unique programme is based on a powerfully motivating support system called IMAGE (Individual Motivation and Group Experience) Therapy. Underpinned by a deep understanding of the psychology of overweight people, and incorporating the most effective sustainable behaviour change techniques, IMAGE Therapy is designed to inspire and motivate slimmers to make positive changes and to develop new, healthier habits around food and activity.
· Food Optimising is our healthy eating plan, based on the liberating concept of Free Food. We encourage our members to fill up on those foods that are naturally lower in energy density (calories per gram) and also highly satisfying while limiting foods that are highest in fat and sugar and are less satisfying, so they lose weight without ever feeling hungry or deprived and without having to weigh, measure or count everything they eat.
· Our activity programme, Body Magic helps members to overcome any barriers around activity. Members choose when to start and they set the pace, finding activities they genuinely enjoy, until regular physical activity becomes an intrinsic part of their daily routine.
At the heart of everything we do lies our passion for treating every member with genuine care, empathy and respect.
We’re proud to work with the NHS, the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), The Royal College of Midwives and others to help shape the future of weight management in the UK and Ireland.
