Slimming World announces continued partnership of Cancer Research UK's Race for Life

The UK’s leading weight-loss organisation Slimming World is excited to announce it is an official sponsor of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life 2024.

Slimming World, which has been working with Cancer Research UK for almost a decade, has helped to raise more than £19m in fundraising through events such as the annual Big Slimming World Clothes Throw and the Slimming World London Marathon team, as well as supporting 2023’s Race for Life event.

Elise Wells, Director of Marketing, Brand Strategy and External Communications at Slimming World, says: “We’re thrilled to be an official sponsor of Race for Life for a second time. Last year we were blown away by the participation from our members and Consultants, who run our local community groups. They helped to raise an incredible £949,567 last year for Cancer Research UK, as well as increasing the awareness that maintaining a healthy weight improves health including the risk of developing some types of cancer."

Our Body Magic physical activity support programme is all about encouraging our members to find ways of moving more that they can enjoy at their own pace, so Race for Life is a great fit with our approach to exercise as well.

Elise continues: "Race for Life  has a wonderful sense of community, support and fun that is exactly what our members love about their weekly Slimming World groups too. We can’t wait to see everyone embrace Race for Life 2024!”

Gareth Mulcahy, head of events and sport at Cancer Research UK, said: “We are proud to welcome back Slimming World as one of our sponsors for Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life in 2024. The contributions their community has made over the years has helped to fund life-saving research and treatments, and we are so grateful for their continued support.

“Since Race for Life first launched 30 years ago, we’ve seen incredible progress in cancer survival in the UK.  We’ve found new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat the disease and every day we see the impact of our work on people affected by cancer and their loved ones.  This progress wouldn’t have been possible without our supporters. It goes to show that no matter how cancer affects us, life is worth racing for.”

Race for Life allows participants to take part in a 3k, 5k, 10k or Pretty Muddy to raise money for research into cancer. And there’s never been a better time for Slimming World members and their family and friends to enter because, to celebrate the partnership, those attending the organisation’s 7,700 community groups or Slimming World Online can now sign up to take part in their local Race for Life 2024 event for a fabulous 30% off. About Slimming World

Slimming World was founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell OBE in Derbyshire in 1969 and has become the UK and Ireland’s leading weight loss organisation with more people choosing to attend a Slimming World group each week than any other weight loss programme. We support hundreds of thousands of people, both in our groups and online, to lose weight and to adopt new habits to stay slim for life.

Over the years our founding principles haven’t changed:

·  Our unique programme is based on a powerfully motivating support system called IMAGE (Individual Motivation and Group Experience) Therapy. Underpinned by a deep understanding of the psychology of overweight people, and incorporating the most effective sustainable behaviour change techniques, IMAGE Therapy is designed to inspire and motivate slimmers to make positive changes and to develop new, healthier habits around food and activity.

·  Food Optimising is our healthy eating plan, based on the liberating concept of Free Food. We encourage our members to fill up on those foods that are naturally lower in energy density (calories per gram) and also highly satisfying while limiting foods that are highest in fat and sugar and are less satisfying, so they lose weight without ever feeling hungry or deprived and without having to weigh, measure or count everything they eat.

·  Our activity support programme, Body Magic helps members to overcome any barriers around exercise. Members choose when to start and they set the pace, finding activities they genuinely enjoy, until regular physical activity becomes an intrinsic part of their daily routine.

At the heart of everything we do lies our passion for treating every member with genuine care, empathy and respect.

We’re proud to work with the NHS, the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), The Royal College of Midwives and others to help shape the future of weight management in the UK and Ireland.
