Support
Looking for support to manage your weight during pregnancy?
If you had a raised BMI at the start of your pregnancy and you’re concerned about gaining excess weight during your pregnancy, accessing some support may be beneficial.
Partner, family and friends
Having the support of your family and friends can make managing your weight during pregnancy that much easier. Turn them down kindly if they serve up huge portions ‘because you’re eating for two’ or suggest that ‘the baby needs an extra slice of cake’! Consider buddying with a friend who would be happy to walk with you, helping you to keep active during pregnancy.
Your midwife
Don’t be afraid to ask your midwife, who’ll always be on hand to advise and support you during your pregnancy, and they’ll be aware of local support groups that specifically help mums-to-be – with weight management, activity or just social get-togethers.
Slimming World
If you feel that a weight-management group might be beneficial, then Slimming World has a warm welcome waiting for you. In line with national guidelines, and in collaboration with The Royal College of Midwives, Slimming World have developed their policy to support members in managing their weight healthily during pregnancy.
Members aren’t encouraged to lose weight during pregnancy, and instead are supported to eat a healthy, balanced diet and stay physically active to support the health of both mum and baby.
Slimming World’s eating plan, Food Optimising, provides a flexible, healthy diet and fits perfectly with current guidelines for healthy eating during pregnancy. Slimming World’s Body Magic activity support programme encourages members in finding their own personal and enjoyable way of building regular activity into daily life and moving more, more often.
Any member wishing to continue their membership or join Slimming World during their pregnancy is required to gain the support of their midwife.
