Slimming World on Referral for patients with diabetes - Study Published
New research published this month showed that despite type 2 diabetes being a chronic, progressive condition, referral to Slimming World is successful in supporting patients to lose weight and improve glucose control.
The study involved 69 patients being referred to Slimming World from their diabetes specialist nurse. Patients were followed up after 12 months, and on average had lost a clinically significant 5.5% of their starting weight. Many participants saw improvements in glucose control and some patients were able to reduce their use of diabetes medication. Participants also reported healthy lifestyle changes, including less reliance on processed foods and unhealthy snacking and being more likely to go for regular walks.
